Maths Place Value

Ancient means very very old like 3,000 years ago. Egyptions are people from egypt.
Acient Egyptian numbers are written in pictures instead of numbers.

A image represents numbers. Short ropes show one, long ropes show 10, coil ropes show 100, flowers show 1,000 ( one thousand), A finger shows 10,000 ( ten thousand), A frog shows 100,000 ( one hundred thousand) and a god praying to the sun is 1,000,000 (one million).

Here is a number in Ancient Egyptian :

This number is 2321.

Aboriginal Dot Art

Aboriginal art are what Aboriginal people did so they can tell there stories. That happened about 45,000 years ago. Instead of using words they used symbols to tell there stories. These stories were actually called dreamtime stories.

My animal I used is a Goanna. A Goanna is a type of lizard. We tested out doing
the dot technique before doing the real art. The symbols that we used for the art : waterhole, footprints,
travelling path, hunter, boomerang, stars and others more.

My dreamtime story is about a Goanna looking for water. He drinks water from the waterhole
and then a hunter come in with a boomerang, then he throws it at the Goanna but misses. The Goanna
looks for another waterhole to drink out of.

Lastly he travels to a new area with more waterholes and more food.

I enjoyed doing aboriginal dot painting and it was fun.

Properties of Sound

Sound is a noise that can be heard. There are three properties found from the expirement.

The first one is that Sound dissipates as it travels. Dissipates means it gets weaker and weaker.
The proof is As sound travels is gets lower on a decibel meter.

The propety is that sound travels the same way in all directions. Sound can basically
be same in different positions

The propety is sound can travel around corners. This was observed on the sound meter that was placed around a corner from the sound source.

LI: To observe properties of sound.

✅ ❎
Sound is louder when is closer to the source but quieter when further away from the source.
Mr Wong meter read 80 DB.
Mr Ogilvie meter read 59 DB.
As sound travels it gets lower.
The Sound was basically the same in different positions around the meter.
The meter records the same from the front, back, side and above.

Connecting Light & Sound

We were using our prior knowledge on light and sound.

My understand is light is a what makes a darker area brighter. Sound is what you can hear.  Sound can be heard from something loud. I looked for images that linked to light and sound. After that I had to connect the images to light and sound or both. Lastly I had specifically write down how light and sound work.

LI: To demonstrate prior knowledge.

Scanning

Scanning is understanding pieces of information and finding specific information.

To scan make sure to think of keywords first before reading the book. Next step
is to scan in the contents page for the page that has information in need.

After that look at the headings. Lastly scan the body for keywords and then
read the specific information.

Scanning is helpful because it can help understand the text much eaiser.

Number Sentence Order

Maths equations are written in a specific way called a number sentence.

The number that is first in the maths equation tells the amount a person has.

The second number in the maths equation tells the number that is added or subtracted.

Number sentences have to stay the same otherwise the whole meaning changes.

LI: To learn the order of subtraction.

Conversation using Direct Speech

LI. To write conversations.

What is conversation and direct speech?

Direct speech is exactly what a person said. For example, " can we go to the park."
Conversation is talking between two people or a whole group. When a conversation
is being held you have to use quotation marks which could be also called ( speech marks ).

If another person going to speak there line goes below the previous person.
Thats how you know who is speaking.

Here is my example.

Number Bond Rainbow - Up to 20

Number bonds are a simpe addition of two number to add up to
give the sum. Also to make a tidy number.

Number bonds to 20 is adding one pair and a one digit number to make
20.

The different ways to make 20 is :

  • 1 and 19
  • 2 and 18
  • 3 and 17
  • 4 and 16
  • 5 and 15
  • 6 and 14
  • 7  and 13
  • 8 and 12
  • 9 and 11
  • 10 and 10
Here is what a number bond rainbow looks like.

Identifying Reported and Direct Speech

What is direct and reported speech?

Direct speech has to have quatation marks because someone is speaking.
Quatation marks are important when speaking because you would know if they are
speaking or not, and maybe you don't know who is speaking.

Direct speech is when a person has said exactly something. For example,
"What time is it Jimmy."

Reported speech is telling what some else has said.  For example,
Siale asked if he could play rugby. More information about reported speech
is that it is in the past.

LI. To identify reported and direct speech.
