Early NZ Exploration

Kupe and Cook are two important explorers in New Zealand history.

Kupe arrived to NZ in the 1100's. Kupe travelled by traditional methods
on a traditional sail boat. Myth has it that Kupe followed a giant octopus
to New Zealand.

Cook came to NZ in 1769. He travelled to New Zealand to make a map of the
two main islands and to find Australia. He travelled on a ship called a Endeavour.
Cook was a british explorer.

Kupe is important because he was the first documented person in NZ.
Cook is important because he mapped NZ and opened it up to the world to acces.
