Optical Illusions

For this activity we made our own optical illusions.

There was a website where it had all the information on it about optical illusions.

My shape I used for my optical illusion was a circle. How I made my optical illusion is that I make a big circle. I copy and paste it until than make it a little bit smaller. I just kept on doing until I thought it was enough circles put on there.

I think this is my favourite task lately.


 

Te Reo Maori - What are you doing?

 This activtity is an Te Reo Maori activity.

There was a voice recorder and it said a sentence in maori. Then below it was a slide with the Maori sentence with some missing words.

After that slide it is the same thing but you have place all the words into a sentence.

The challenging part was the fifth slide.

This was an cool activity.

Kowhaiwhai Pattern

This Summer Learning Journey activity we made kowhaiwhai patterns. 

First I read about Tanerore which means summer. After we have done reading about Tanerore we started on the kowhaiwhai patterns. 

We could make any pattern we wanted and we also changed the color of our background that represents summer.  

My kowhaiwhai pattern represents my family.

Insect Art | SLJD2 - 2

The Summer Learning Journey activity we did was called Insect art.

First we had to collected: leaves, twigs, and petals. I got one thing that was not in that list which is pebbles.

After we collected everything we next had to make the things we collected into a insect. The insect I made was a butterfly.

I enjoyed this activity and I really like creating things.

Commenting Task

 For this activtiy we just had to make comment thread on a person blogpost.

The person I commented was Riley Pao. The work I commented on was his comic strip. 

I thought his comic strip was interesting because he has written a amazing comic strip. 

There is nothing wrong with his comic strip and I'm just waiting for Riley to reply to my comment.

Fishy False Teeth

 This activity was called Fishy False Teeth. First we had to read the article Fish False Teeth.

When we have finished reading the article we writed things down in a template to check if we understood the article. Next we watched a video which was called teeth. Lastly we created a comic strip.

When writing my comic strip I was making it creative and interesting. 

I enjoyed this Summer Learning Journey activity and can't wait for the next one. I enjoyed this activity because of the comic strip.

Treasure Hunt with Nano Girl - SLJ Activity Day 1

This Summer Learning Journey activity, we had to look for materials that we are using to build something. To start we watched a video of Nano Girls. Nano Girl was showing materials that she was using to build something.

Some of the materials that we have found is: string, cans, plastic cups, paper, and other more. 

We have created a video about the materials we had and also finding materials.

Presentation

We wrote a presentation and presented to our Mr Wong and Mr Ogilvie. Our company is Creative Shelters. We made a presentation on our shelters and our shelter is a storm shelter. 

We presented the materials, why we chose a curved shape, and what each part is for. In our presentation we had to have all the delivrables (everything we need to have in our presentation).

Our presentation was alright and I was a little nervous speaking in front of everybody. The feedback we got from Mr Wong and Mr Ogilvie is what we is our shelter protecting against and how does the curve roof of the house protect people.


Our shelter is protecting against: strong wind, heat temperature, and lightning. The roof protects people because the material of the roof would stop anything coming inside and destroying things. Any objects that hits the curve roof would slide off easily. When we were presenting we didn't have our real model and our presentation was less than a minute.

Summer Learning Journey

 For Summer Learning Journey we did an activity which was art coloring. It was a kick start activity. 

It was a website with different pictures we could color in. We chosen a color then just pressed on a certain area and it would turn into the color we just picked. 

I colored in a picture which was called: Under the Waver off Kanawaga. The person who made the was called: Hokusaica.

In the picture it's just the sea with big waves there and some other details. 

This website is really interesting and It is a good website to do art on. 



Maori

 For Maori we researched Maori places in the North Island to know the meaning of that word.

We did the same activity from last week's work. Some words that we found out the meaning is:
Paeroa - Long ridge, Whangaroa - Long harbour and lastly Matamata - Headland.

I enjoyed the work we did this week for Maori. I enjoyed it because I like finding the meaning of the Maori places.

The Mysterious Creepy Witches

 The Witches book is written by Roald Dahl. In the story the boy and the grandmother destroys the witches of England.

The boy is still a mouse person. All the witches were turned into mice and even the Grand High Witch. If one Grand High Witch dies there is always another Grand High Witch. The boy and the grandmother saved all the children of England. The problem is that there is still witches in other countries. The grandmother told the boy that she spoke with the chief policemen of England and founded out information about the Grand High Witch. Also she found out information about the other witches. 

They both know where witches headquarters are and the headquarters is in a castle. They planned to turned them into mice and then put cats into the castle so the cats could kill the witches. Instead they were going to travel to each country and turn all the witches into mice so there is more witches to do bad things.

The witches book is really interesting because had an adventure encountering the witches.

Maori Performance

 We watched a performance that was did by a Kapa Haka group. 

The first thing that happened was them doing an entrance ceremoney. They used a conch to let the people notice them coming in. The Kapa Haka group introduced three weapons then they used in a dance.

After that Kapa Haka group finshed doing the haka the our school Kapa Haka group did the haka. After all that we played a game called Matau-Maui. There is more information about Matau-Maui.

I enjoyed the performance and my favourite part was the part when the two groups did the haka.

Touch Rugby

The first thing we did to before playing a game of touch rugby we practise 3 man settles and two man settles. If your attack the main thing is driving foward down the field because it makes the defense offside and tired. Make sure you go drive foward to the same player cause they will get tired easily.

The first skill that we practise was 3 man settles. First you run up get touched, put it on the ground for the dummy half, then dummy half picks up and then passes it to the next player.

The next we practise was 2 man settle and 2 man settles are basically like 3 man settle but only with two players. First you run up get touched, put it on the ground for the dummy half, then lastly pass it back to the sae player who got touched.

After practising those drills we got split into three teams and then player a game of touch rugby. It was really fun playing a game of touch.

I enjoyed playing a game of touch and I need to improve myself. I enjoyed it because I scored and got a intercept.

Fractions, Percentages & Decimals

Fractions are equal pieces of a whole. In a fraction there is a denominator and a numerator. The numerator is the amount kept and the denominator is the whole divided. For example: I have 2 / 4, the numerator is 
the number two and the denominator is the number 4.

Here is two numbers, 32 and 24. What is 2 / 3 of 24. The answer is 16. It's 16 because, 24 divide a by 3 is 8 and 8 x 2 equals 16 . What is 3/16 of 32. The answer is 6 . It's 6 because, 32 divide a by 16 is 2 and 2 x 3 equals 6. An improper fraction is 7 /3. 1 / 2 can be 2 / 4 and 2 / 4 can be 4 / 8.

Percentages is a rate, number, or a amount of each hundred. 1 / 4 of 100 percent is 25 percent. 

A decimal number can be defined as a number whose whole number part and the fractional part is separated by a decimal point. The digits following the decimal point shows a value smaller than one. The decimal point is just the dot in the middle of the number.

Fractions, percentages, and decimals are helpful when trying to figure out maths equation.

Emergency Shelter

The inquiry task was to write down the materials that are needed for the storm shelter that is going to be built.                                                       

In total there are 9 materials that could protect against storm shelter. There are three main materials that are important to use for protecting the shelter and which are concrete, chicken wires, and rubber bracelets. We chose concrete because it is not easy to break apart. We chose chicken wires because it can keep the shelter stable. We chose rubber bracelets because it can stop electricity.


The other six materials are: cotton balls, aluminum, popsicle sticks, duck tape, hard plastic, and steel.  All 9 materials are important for defending the shelter and could be useful for something in danger.


We figured out the amount was because we drew the shelter and drew our materials. We kept on filling the whole until it was finished. For example: For concrete, the height is 18cm and the width is 20cm. There are four walls and the floor. So there are five and five places to use the concrete. That’s how we figured out the concrete can be used.


Emergency shelters are really important when it comes to floods and different kinds of storms.

Maori Names

 Today we matched Maori names with English names. For example: Raniera - Daniel and Maaka - Mark. We couldn't use Maori dictionary this time. 

The first activty we did was Maori names. There are some letters that are not in the Maori alphabet. J is H, D is t, D and L is r, and V is W.

The next activity we did was Maori conversations. There was a Maori sentence and we had to translate it into English. For example: Kei te haere au ki te kāinga o Mr Smith i tēnei rā, - I’m going to Mr Smith’s home today,

Nō reira, kia ora koutou katoa. - So, congratulations to you all.

I learnt new names today in Maori and enjoyed these two activites. I enjoyed those two activities because it helped me know different names in maori.

Kiwisport - Touch

 For touch we recapped two main skills in touch rugby which was two man and three man settle.

The first skill we practised was three man settle. If practising a three man settle first you run up, get touched and then plant the ball on the ground for the dummy half to pick up and then pass to the next person.

The second skill we practised was two man settle. If practising a two man settle first you run up, get touched and then plant the ball for the dummy half to pick up and pass it to the same person who got touch. We kept on practising these skills to get used to it. 

After that we played a game of touch. We got split up into three teams. Two teams will play and then other team would be watching them playing. There were people that didn't know how to play but it's fine, they are still learning how to play.

I enjoyed this session today at touch rugby.





Maths ~ Averages

We had an atheltics result. We had to add all the numbers up for each team. After we added the total points for each team we then added it all together. We could use repeated addition or multiplication. Multiplication is better but I did repeated addition. 

After adding everything up we had to try and find the averages of these numbers: 182, 186, and 174. Two teams got 182 points.

We had to divide the number by 9. We founded the average by simple divsion. For example:

182 divide a by 9 equals 20.2 . We had to round the decimal point. The numbers that make the decimal point go up is 5,6,7,8,9. 

The numbers that make the decimal point go down is 4,3,2,1. 


Inquiry

 This week we had to find materials for our shelters. My group chose cotton, aluminum, concrete, plasterboard, nails and brick.


Next we had to find the height and the width. We chose 20cm tall and 25cm long for the walls and the walls are 25cmx25cm.


Then we copied a document and we wrote down the materials and how much we needed and the height and the width.


We like this activity and want to do it again. 


Novel Study - The Witches

The book The Witches is a fictional book made by Roald Dahl. The Witches book is about the boy and grandmother trying to destroy witches and stopping them from disappearing children.

In the story there is rules of all the witches which who is called the Grand High Witch. The boy's grandmother tells him information about witches. The grandmother used to study on witches. 

Chapter 15 was about the boy going into the Grand High Witch room which is 454, stealing the formula 86 Delayed Mouse Maker. Chapter 16 is about the boy going back to his room to give the formula to his grandmother. The last chapter is about the boy and the grandmother trying to give fat Bruno Jenkins to his parents. 





Maori - Auckland Volcanoes

We learnt about Auckland volcanoes and weathers in Maori.

To start off we had to match the English Auckland Volcanoe names with Maori.  For example: 
Mt Smart is Rarotonga and Mt Eden is Maungawhau. These volcanoes are probably all extinct volcanoes.

The next task was about weathers in Maori. There was different options and we had try to get the correct answers. There was some I already knew.

Now I know what Auckland Volcanes are in Maori is.

The Witches Book

The Grand High Witch started to talk again about the mouse maker recipe working to perfection. A boy was standing outside the private meeting room full of witches. The witches quickly put their ordinary person look back on. The Grand High Witch was counting down from 10 seconds. The witches turned Bruno Jenkins into a mouse. Luckily Bruno Jenkins ran away as soon as he turned into a mouse.

Witches said they all going to turn every kid in England to mouse. Witches are going to own candy stores and give children candy that have a drop of 86 Delayed Mouse Maker. One witch stood up and could smell a fiflthy child. A witch stared at the boy behind the screen and she yelled "It's behind the screen!".

The witches surrounded the boy. The witches rushed them and grabbed the boy. The Grand High Witch gave the boy the formula. He felt terrible, then he started to turn into a mouse. He ran away and behind a leg of a chair. The boy found Bruno Jenkins and started talking to each other. The boy and Bruno Jenkins were going to the boy's grandmother.

SSR Selfie

 On SSR Selfie the book I answered questions on the book Human Body. The author of this book is Margaret Hynes and the illustrator is Andy Crisp.

One fact about the book is that our body can't cope with extremes of cold and heat, or low oxygen level.

Another fact is, the lungs hold in air in there. 

One last fact is, blood is a transport system that travels through the veins and arteries in your body, delivering oxygen and essential chemicals to where they are needed.



Screen Play

 Screenplays are stories written in spoken parts only. 

The speaking parts are centered in the middle, and underneath the person name, so the actors know what to say. 

When writing a screenplay names of people has to be written in all caps. Also the names of people has to be centered in the middle of the page.

The scene heading has to be written in all caps. For example: SCENE 1 - RUFUS IS PLAYING ON THE PLAYGROUND. Speech marks are not included in speech.

Screenplays are helpful and important because, it helps an actor rememeber there line.

Manaikalani Film Festival Comment

On Wednesday we went to the 2020 Manaikalani Film Festival. The film I commented and watch was called Compliment Project. 

The film was made by Glen innes school room 6. It was about a kid getting bulied and then people writing down compliments about him.

My thoughts on the movie is that it is a great film. 





Maori

For Maori we translated names of people. We had to learn the maori alphabet. If a name starts with an S or J in Maori it will be an H. If it If a name starts with a B into Maori it will start with an P. Lastly if a name starts with V in Maori it will be a W. There are more letters that are not in the maori alphabet. 

For example: Timothy - Timoti and Nicholas - Nikora.

Basic Facts Boxes

The maths operation I did in basic facts boxes was multiplication. The time I got was 3 minutes and 43 seconds. I got all of my questions correct. 

I beated my other time. Next time I do multiplication I am going to beat my time and try to get into the 2 minute zone.

Time tables is really easy for me because I know all my time tables.

I felt happy about my time but I am going to try and do division next.





Maths

 This week for maths we learned about our partners work that they they did in week 1 and week 2.

First we had to get into partners and then started to share our work we did. The work my partner did was statistics. Data and frequency is helpful to make your graphs and to collect data. A graph is explaining your frequency and amount.

 In New Zealand we used cents and dollars.  The work my partner did was multiplication(fact family). Fact families is a easy math strategy. It's used to know the other math questions by switching the the equation the other way like( 7 x 8 = 56 / 8 x 7 = 56 ). If changing the answer into large numbers you just add the zero at the end of the number. So like:

6 x 3 = 18 / 60 x 3 = 180

5 x 6 = 30 / 50 x 6 = 300

7 x 4 = 28 / 70 x 4 = 280

I thought I did good as a teacher and my partner didn't have that much information but he still taught me something about his work.

Touch Rugby - Kiwisport

This week we practised some of the basic skills of touch rugby which was two man and three man settle. 


To start off we did a two man settle. How to do a two man settle is: First plant the ball onto the groud, next step to the side then step back, Lastly the dummy half picks the ball up and passes it back to you. After a two man settle we did a three man settle. 

How to do a three man settle is: Plant the ball onto the ground, the second players goes dummy half and passes the ball to player behind him. A two man settle and three man settle is used to drive down the field. It makes the defense tired and makes the defense offside.

After that we played walking touch. We play walking touch, so the people that don't know how to play touch rugby could get a basic understanding of the game.

I had fun practising three man and two man settles, I just want to start playing games of touch rugby already.

Inter Scool touch rugby tournament

 On Wednesday some people from LS1 & LS2 went to dunkirk reserve for a friendly touch rugby tournament. Competition was split into different years groups. 

The year 5 team had four games, they lost two games and tied another two games. The year 6 team had 7 games, we won 4 games and lost three games. 

The first game we played was against Pt England 1. They won 2 - 0. Our next game was against St Patricks. We won 3 - 0. After that we played against Stonefields 1. We lost 5 - 4. We played against Stonefield 2. We won 4 - 2. 

Our fifth game we played against Sylvia Park. We lost 3 - 0. After that game we played against Bailey Road. We won 5 - 1. Our last game we played against Pt England 2. We won 3 - 1. 

The hardest team was Sylvia Park and the most fun game was against Pt England 2. I had fun and want to do another touch rugby tournament. 




I only got one try but I was happy to be at the touch rugby tournament.

Touch Rugby

For kiwi sport we leanred and practised basic skills of touch rugby. To start off we practised tapping the ball, catching, and passing the ball.

After that we played passing drills to get used to commiting to the ball and catching. 

I enjoyed touch rugby today and want to play touch rugby.

Inquiry - Insulation

 Insulation is stopping heat from escaping . There are five different insulators that was experimented on and it was: Plastic, paper, polystyrene, glass, and tins. 

The materials that keep things warm are: plastic, paper, and tin. The materials that keep things cool are: plastic, polystyrene, and glass. 

The material that kept things warm and cold best was polystyrene.

 This week for maori we translated words into english. 

To help us with the activity we used the maori dictionary to search up the maori words that we didn't know the meaning of.

There was another activity we practised. There were pictures with different weathers, we had to match the words with the picture.

Measuring - Converting

Converting measurment is using multiplication and division for the width, height, and length of something.

If multitplying a number to 10 shift the decimal place to the right only once. For example: If I multiply 60.0 by 10 you shift the decimal place to the right so the number is 600. The number got bigger.

If dividing a number to 100 shift the decimal place to the left twice. For example: If dividing 600 by 100 you shift the decimal place to the right twice so that means the number is 6.00 . The number got smaller.

If shifting a number to the left, you don't add a zero, you shift the zero from the decimal place. Also the amount of zero's mean how many times the decimal point moves to the right or left.

Place value is helpful for converting measurments.

Experiment - Inquiry

For inquiry this week we did an experiment. We did this experiment to see how much water was absorbed into the material and how much was not absorbed. The material I used was cotton rags. 

 First step we had to pour 100ml of water into a beaker. Next we did 5 dips of food coloring, then grabbed 50g of cotton. After that we placed the cotton in a pile,  poured the 100ml of water into the cotton rags slowly. 

After that we poured the not absorbed water back into the beaker. Lastly we poured it into the proper measuring container and measured it.

I enjoyed doing this task I want to do more experiments.





Maori - Te tinana

 For maori this week we learnt body parts. We had to match the maori body part into the english body part. We had to highlight the ones we knew and left the the ones that we searched up blank. For example:(arero - tongue).

I enjoyed this activity and need to learn my maori body parts better.

Informal & Formal Language and Sitaution

What is formality? Formality tells others when to use formal and informal language.

Formal means times when rules and politeness need to be followed. An example for a formal language: "Greetings Siale pleasure to meet you, do you want to come to a cafe." 

Informal means time when rules and politeness don't have to be followed. An example for a informal language: "Chur toko how you've been, wanna play touch on the field with the boys."
