Identifying Reported and Direct Speech

What is direct and reported speech?

Direct speech has to have quatation marks because someone is speaking.
Quatation marks are important when speaking because you would know if they are
speaking or not, and maybe you don't know who is speaking.

Direct speech is when a person has said exactly something. For example,
"What time is it Jimmy."

Reported speech is telling what some else has said.  For example,
Siale asked if he could play rugby. More information about reported speech
is that it is in the past.
